...about Mat
I’m Mat, I'm 24 and I live and work
in Leeds. I studied at Leeds University,
but it's time for me to finally get
out of the lazy student mentality,
and get on my bike (so to speak!).
The last time I rode a bike was back
when I was when I was about 15 and
more interested in doing wheelies
and jumps.
There's no doubt this trip is going to be tough, but it’s going to be worth it. 7 years ago I lost my mum, a child of South Africa to breast cancer. I have never been able to repay the help my family received from Macmillan, but now I have the chance. I have not exercised properly for years so to get me through this, my blood, sweat and tears will be dedicated to my mum.
I have thrown out the take away menus, poured the remaining booze down the sink and replaced my lazy Sundays with a trek across the Yorkshire Moors. So thank you for sponsoring us, every little counts!
...about Alex
When Mat first asked me if I fancied
biking 600km across Africa this summer,
although the idea sounded noble,
I put it down to one of those 'Sunday
night down the pub®' suggestions,
to be all but forgotten within a
couple of days. A bit Like the time
I convinced myself that there really
was a worldwide need for
a ketchup bottle that vibrates so you
don't waste time shaking the ketchup
out. Ever seen
one? Exactly!
Months on though, and our deposit cheques are in, we've signed on the dotted line and the countdown to D-day has begun. With all that stands between us and the experience of a lifetime being the slight hurdle of some intensive training!
The trip itself should give us the chance to meet some exceptional characters, have a unforgettable time, and also raise some money for a reputable cause - and to think I nearly ended up in Magaluf eh?
Anyway We hope you like the website, and it spurs you to make some kind of donation to the cause. However small it my be. Thanks!
